Hi, I have recreated this thread as it seems to have been deleted. If someone decides to delete it this time can you please let me know what I did wrong?? Being in the dark is not much fun and quite frustrating.

--------------

Hi all,

I currently have the following hardware:
Mobo: GA-MA770-UD3 rev 2.0
Ram: 2 x 1Gb XMS2 CM2X1024-6400 5-5-5-18 @ 400Mhz
2 x 1Gb XMS2 CM2X1024-5400C4
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640
Stock CPU cooler
GPU: Radeon HD5450 with passive cooling

I currently have the following overclock: CPU Frequency 230 (200 stock). Everyting else is "Auto" and the memory is set to unganged. This uplifted my PC Mark score from 994 to 1126 i.e. 11.8%

.................Stock...........OC (230)
CPU...........3299...........3802
RAM...........865.............967

CPU temps under load = 54C

This machine is not used for gaming but for desktop apps and the occasional google earth etc.

I am soon to be getting some more RAM (awaiting delivery) as I need 6Gb for running some VMs. I purchsed 2 x 2Gb XMS2 CM2X2048-6400C5 to go along with the faster pair of 1Gb sticks above. I am hoping to see a small performance increase by ditching the slower 5400 sticks (I expect about 5% on the memory speed). I remember trying settings above 230 for the CPU frequency but I don't think it worked. I have not got the RAM just to get the uplift from 5400(5300) to 6400 as I know this is quite minimal.

The question I have is.... when I get the new memory and then it's all 6400 are there any tweaks that I should be looking to make to the timings of the RAM on this particular Mobo?? I don't what some insane OC but just a modest OC that is nice and stable and does not require a new PSU or more cooling. I dont want to look at faster CPU's or Mobo's or memory but, rather, id just like to get the best out of what I have. I understand that the XMS2 memory is quite good and I guess I need to know if it is running at its best out of the box or does it require a bit of tuning?

Any help and advise greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Paul

Well, I'm not quite sure on mem overclocking, but I've sort of gotten the hang of it. As far as I know, you will be absolutely fine, even for gaming, without the OC. I only need to OC mine because I render and record A LOT.

By the by, what speed RAM is this?
