Hi

A friend needs to build/buy a system to basically run Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign and some IDE's and GUI creation software.
There most probably will be instances when more than 1 Adobe program as well as multiple internet pages are running simultaneously.

What would you recommend:
1. build vs buy ???
2. system specs

also the budget is really really limited, friends in south africa and the budget is limited to R4000-R4500 and a monitor is not required as she plans to hook the system to an HD led tv/monitor.

please specify why you suggest your particular choice in a few words, thanks

thanks in advance

As far as I know, Adobe's great at multi threading, so the best CPU for the money would be the FX 8000 series from AMD. A lot faster than Intel's quad core i7's . A dual HDD setup would be best (1 source, 1 target) with the most RAM possible and a workstation grade GPU, even if it's not too powerful, should still boost the performances quite a bit. For the GPU, she should check out Adode's knowledgebase for compatibility.

Still, I've never tried any multimedia editing, so you might not need too much RAM.

For that budget you are looking at a low end system, although it will run those programs, won't be too well and will have issues with large files. Maybe a used workstation will do here, HP or Lenovo towers are pretty common on the used market, DELL XPS as well. You can probably get a used Core i5 system with 4 gig or more of RAM for that budget, and that should include the operating system. Otherwise you are looking at close to $100 just for Windows not even counting any hardware costs.

This would actually get inside your budget for new, including an OS http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3hmtC

Are there any existing parts that can be used (RAM, hard drive maybe) or is this all new needed?

unfortunately no spare parts, thanks for the suggested build...
is there any truth in a rumour stating that AMD cpus can burn, or is that only when they're overclocked???
just interested to know as there is no intention to overclock anything.

thanks

was able to find a close match to budget

AMD A8 - 6600K 3.9GHz quad core
MSI A78M-E35 FM2+
4GB DDR3 1600mhz
1TB sata 3 HDD( not sure which brand)
Foxconn 400w psu

what are your opinons?

thanks

That would be within budget but make sure you check for a review of the power supply. Did you see the system I linked to?

i have seen that build, and it looks a good, but like i mentioned we are in south africa so thats out of the question.

i have also found an i3 4130 system, Gigabyte H81 board and same 4GB ram and 1 TB HDD and 400w psu, which is better between the AMD APU and the i3 ???
