Confused about monitor's aspect ratio, resolutions, size (in inches), all the ports etc..

Can somebody mention:
1) Which gives better feel/look for gaming - either widescreen monitors or others?
2) What are the widescreen monitor sizes (in inches)
3) Minimum monitor SIZE available with 1920 x 1080 resolution
4) What screen size will be better to view when I'm sitting at about 2.75 feet (0.8m) from the monitor?

Anybody? thanks in advance!

I like widescreen better, because it lets you see more of the game/movie/whatever. You could get almost any diagonal size you want, widescreen will just be in 16:9 aspect ratio. I think the smallest 1080p is 21.5 inches. I have a 1440p 27 inch monitor, and I sit almost exactly 80cm from it, so I would recommend that if you can afford it.

I like ASUS, they aren't too pricey, but they're still good quality. LG, Samsung, and BenQ also make good ones. What kind are you looking for? I could probably find a good fit at a reasonable price.

I'm not well aware of the monitor brands and their quality to price ratio (vice versa), what maximum size monitors I can get at 1080p under 8000 Indian rupees?

At 1080p, I'd recommend around 23-24 inches, because if you go bigger, it doesn't look as crisp. A really good one is the ASUS VS239H-P, but I'm not sure how much it would cost for you. Find out how much it is in India (if you can even buy it), and tell me if you need me to find a cheaper one.

:ouch: That was more than twice my budget :no: say any cheaper 1080p monitor..
How about 1600x900.. Is that a widescreen (16:9) ? Will it make a big difference from 1920x1080p (the one i mostly in need)?

If that was twice your budget, then I think you will have to go with a 1600x900, and it'll probably be under 20 inches. How much does the Acer G206HQLbd cost?

Edit: the Acer G236HL Bbd is probably one of the cheapest 1080p monitors you'll find. I think it's worth the extra cost; the difference is quite noticeable, but if you really can't afford it, you're going to have to drop the resolution.

Ok, anything equal to and above 19 inches and exactly 1600 x 900 is enough for me.. This model costs about 2000 rupees higher.. Can you say a little bit cheap? Twisted nematic panel, less than or equal to 5 ms response time is enough for me.. the main things I'm getting confused are the diff between HDMI, DVI, Display ports.. diff between screen refresh rate and response time.. what contrast ratio, brightness, pixel pitch etc are needed for good gaming experience at 1600 x 900 (LED must).. Also what is HDCP support, VESA compatible, D-sub, etc.. if you could please clarify my doubts as I'm searching for these explanations for considerably a long time and can't get any clear ideas..! :??:

I can't find the Acer G236HL Bbd's indian price anywhere in internet.. Lets stay with 1600 x 900 though..

HDMI, DVI, and Displayport are just the cables you can use to connect it to your computer; they can all do 1600x900, so you don't have to worry about that. Refresh rate is the number of times per second that a new image appears on the screen, and response time is the delay between when you do something on your computer and it appears on the screen. For the other things, I don't think you can find a 1600x900 monitor that would be good for gaming, but you should be able to get an adequate one. This page explains HDCP

VESA is just a method of mounting it on a wall, and D-sub is yet another cable you can use. I'll try to find an even cheaper monitor now.

Thank you so much friend, 1600 x 900 is enough.. So, say me best available cheap monitor in that resolution with response time a mush as low please..

It doesn't seem like the prices I'm seeing translate well to rupees, so I'd suggest you go to your favorite shopping site and search "1600x900 Led monitor" or something like that and find some within your budget. Let me know what options you have and I can help you pick one from there. Or you could just tell me what website you'll be using and I could look if you'd prefer that.

That's actually a really nice one, they should be charging twice that! I would definitely buy it, especially since ebay is really good about refunds if something is wrong with it. You were really lucky to find that. :)

I'd go with the first one, because it has an IPS screen. That gives it a super wide viewing angle (I can see mine when I'm looking pretty much parallel to it). Plus, it's closer to your budget than the other one.

But in that second review (review by Kokila M) on the Dell, the technical issue and fix is holding me back :( And also dell has 7ms as response time, but Benq has 2ms.. But DEll has IPS but Benq has only TN

They're both good monitors. Just go with the one that suits your needs better.
