I currently have a Asus Z87-A set up with a i5-4670K and 32GB of ram. I was running it with two evga 650 Ti in SLI and moved to two MSI 660GTXs in SLi, while I was waiting for the step up to two 760GTX. Now, I have the two 760GTXs and I am looking to upgrade my CPU, only because I sold the two 660GTX, (and some older 8800s) and I have cash, about $275. I also pick a Kingston 240GB SSD. I am also looking at a upgraded motherboard, any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Currently gaming Borderlands 2 and looking to hit BioShock Infinite later this year. I am currently gaming on a 750i with Q9650 and a 295GTX, but wanted to move my i5 Build to a bigger case, so that I why I am not using the better PC. (295GTX does not run BioShock Infinite good)

So...reasons for upgrade.

1. Have $$ to get i7
2. Have two 760GTX
3. Have new 240GB SSD
4. Moving to bigger case. (HAF 932)
5. Motherboard, no real reason, just something new.

Solution
With haswell the voltage regulators are on the chip itself, this almost eliminated the need for a high end board for overclocking.
You might see a tad more stability on a maximus motherboard, but it would not be worth the cost.
The z87-a is a fine motherboard and will not hinder the overclocking ability of the i7 at all

I agree with MFBL about a new MB, the Z87-A is fine and a new one will not get you much. Perhaps pick up some memory, 16GB is nice to have with a new SSD as a system drive, it cuts down on swapping to extend the life of the SSD.

And maybe a water cooler for the new CPU, the Cooler Master Glacier 240L is a real nice one.

Thanks for the input, I will look at the low cost i7s and forgo the possible MOBO replacement. I am maxed up on RAM at the moment, 32GB.

If you want to over lock a 4770k is about your only option, is you are fine leaving it at stock speeds the xeon 1230 v3 is an i7 without the integrated graphics, and runs cheaper at around 240-250
