Hello,

I'm looking to purchase a color laser printer for home sometime in the next few months. I generally produce about 30-40 color pages a month, the majority of them being maps or map modules for an RPG game (I overlay 1" grids on maps or adjust grids on maps given to 1" and print them).

This would be replacing my existing 8-year-old B&W laser printer

  • ■ My max budget is around $500, but I could probably go up to $600 for a great deal or if bells and whistles are impressive.
    ■ I would prefer duplex for the times when I need to print both sides, but that's not a deal-breaker.
    ■ Some sort of networking connection is preferred, but again not a deal-breaker
    ■ I do not need any sort of scanning/fax functions, but won't care if it has them
    ■ I don't need any sort of bundled software other than base drivers.
    ■ I don't need anything more than standard paper sizes (I.E. no 11" x 17")
    ■ I'd greatly prefer it to not be a sloth in terms of printing speed (I.E. would like more than 3 or 4 PPM), but would sacrifice that for price.
    ■ Good reviews, specifically on low breakdown incidence is a big deal

Thank you for your time.

Once upon a time I thought HP made the best printers in the world. I thought it was my fault that I had to reinstall the driver every time I wanted to use it. Now I use Samsung laser and wouldn't change. Cheap and reliable.

If you need a laser printer for your home office or small business, a personal laser printers may fit the bill. These can print hundreds of pages a day. If you want everyone in your small office to be able to use the same printer, set up a print server on a dedicated computer, or buy an external print server.
