Hello Everyone

I was backing up data via hard drive adapter because windows visa crashed. After I put the hard drive back in the laptop, A message came up said operating system was not found. i check the cables was plug in, Any ideals or why this is?

So you took out the hard drive, and somehow 'backed up' it to another hard drive? So I assume you did a 'copy' from old HDD to new HDD, but the entire drive or just files? If you expected to just 'copy' old HDD to new HDD install new HDD all should work fine NO that isn't how it works at all.

If you mean you just 'copied' data from old HDD and put back in old HDD and now it says it can't find the OS, there is many reasons for this. I would first check in BIOS does it see the drive? Second then would be if the drive is listed as the first boot device. If still it doesn't boot, then I guess when Windows crashed it died and you need to reinstall it from scratch.

Here are some problems though, VISTA hasn't been supported for years now, so your on your own on making this work. You could buy and install Windows 8 ($179) but as this is a 5 year old system, this doesn't seem worth the investment if the system isn't really comparable to current systems (i.e. it is a Dual Core 2 and currently people run iCore systems) or has too much 'wear and tear' that the components (which are only guaranteed for 3 years) started to fail (could the HDD be bad now? Possibly and need replacement $129) now or going forward.

It might be best to evaluate the value of this as compared to system replacement (norm for 5 year and older consumer systems) as a i3 generic laptop is $249, i5 is under $400, and so on. Gamer's systems of course for portability are normally over $1200.
