I want an AH-IPS monitor, 5:4 ratio. Which one of these would you prefer?

LG 19MB35PM-B (175 euro)
http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/lcd-computer-monitors/l...

NEC EA193MI (205 euro)
http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/ea193mi-bk

These are the prices I found in Greece.
I was going for the Nec but then I run into the LG as a second option.
I go only for 5:4.

More about : ips monitors

I have two monitors in one pc so I want only 5:4 ratio, same as the other.

Well I am interest in good color quality and, once you can't derive that from the specifications and there are no reviews, I think I have to rely on chance.

My intuition tells me NEC. I find LG as the more show off, less quality-oriented company, judging from their products I have come in touch with so far. Although they say that this monitor is "color calibrated" I don't know if I can trust that this means guaranteed color accuracy.

If you are still trying to decide between the NEC or LG, well I'm not really sure either.
What I can tell you is this: LG probably made the panel inside the NEC monitor... since LG makes most (or all??) IPS panels. It is possible NEC hand picked the best quality panels or added extra features; or it is possible that they didn't; I just don't know. :)
Anyways, they seem pretty close. The LG one looks fine and it's cheaper, so it's probably a good option.

Just to give you something to consider... :)
What about using the larger 16:9 or 16:10 monitor in the middle and have your two 5:4 on the side?

The reason I say that is because those two monitors I linked to are really a lot better than the 5:4 monitors you are looking at in many ways. Consider this:

They both have a higher resolution (both vertically and horizontally).
The Dell has 1920x1200 (16:10)
The LG has 1920x1080 (16:9)

They *might* have a higher color gamut, but I'm not 100% sure (they are >80%). Or maybe a different color gamut would be a problem? :)

They will might taller vertically than your current 5:4 monitors ... well the 1920x1200 might be a little bit taller; I don't know about the LG. Actually, maybe this height difference would be more of a problem? :(

They are similar to the monitors you showed me in that they are also IPS panels.

I'm not saying that the two monitors you showed me are bad ... just that for the same price, you can get a lot more in a monitor.

P.S. I did not now they still made modern 5:4 LCD monitors ... so those two you linked to are kind of interesting. :)  I kinda wish they still made non-widescreen models in the big sizes (like 27" and 30") ... although after using a 16:10 for so long, I don't know if I would switch now, but it would be interesting to see. :)

As for the color calibrated issue; if it says the NEC is color calibrated, it may mean it was calibrated at the factory ... which might be a nice feature. Where did you read this, BTW?

Anyways, the best way to make all 3 of your monitors match is to actually get your own color calibration device. They can be used to make all your monitors match pretty closely to each other if you are using different brands. (If you use all the same model, then they might already be pretty close). Of course, the devices are pretty expensive, so I'm not sure if they can really be considered a "good" solution for the price. :)

The "color calibrated" feature is for LG.

They didn't produce 5:4 monitors for a long time. This Nec is 5 months old and the LG is just some days fresh (launched March 2014). I suppose there is still a demand on the market (from people like me).

Thank you for the three monitors scenario but this new monitor will just replace one of the two that I have now. They play in clone mode which means that even a 5:4 but 21" will show a black surrounding, because the clone mode will take the smallest resolution and play it on both screens.

And that's exactly what I'm thinking.
I know that LG makes panels, even the AH-IPS technology was developed by LG. But this doesn't mean that they make top monitors. Eizo, the most awarded company, doesn't make panels. Most of Eizo IPS panels are supplied to them by LG.
On the contrary, LG is known for the low-cost products in the market.
Some additional theory from my side is this; Maybe the colors on the LG were so bad that extra calibration was necessary. The 1ms less response time could have some slight impact on color reproduction (LG is the type of company that cares for what the customer can spot more easily, and that's the 5 vs 6 ms, not the color accuracy). Well, of course, that's a theory.

Both appear to an AH-IPS panel:

The NEC says it has "Rapid Response", which supposedly is just the overdrive feature to give it better response times.

BTW, you can them for a tad cheaper cheaper.

I cannot order a monitor from amazon to Greece. Also there would be at least a +20euro shipping cost. But I found them somewhere else here; Lg 155e, Nec 195e.

Last thought is to give a chance to LG because I never owned one. From Nec I had one great product and another moderate/not so good.
