Hi,
I have just purchased and installed a r9 290 tri x and am seeing below expected frame rates at 1600p res in bf4. My system is x48t dq6 mobo running a qx9650 @ 3.66ghz with 4gb 1333mhz ddr3. I realise these components are outdated but thought I would upgrade my card until the next gen of CPU's and upgrade then. I get between 30-50 fps on average with everything on high and no AA. Ultra slows everything down even further. Dropping to 1080p does not make much of a difference to average FPS.

Any thoughts?

It is yes, you need a 3.0 i5 or i7 to run bf4 on ultra ..

To get the most out of it you will need an upgrade, the same results at 1080P confirm the CPU bottleneck so you are better of with the higher res tasking the GPU more. The question is can you wait until next gen? Only you can answer it.

Thanks guys. I thought this was the case. From what I can tell broadwell will use a new socket. Will Haswell's refresh use the same socket as it does now? If I'm going to upgrade now then I want to future proof to some degree. As you can see I hold out for as long as possible.

I belief Haswell refresh is going to be the same but at some juncture they will introduce DDR4, probably Broadwell.
