which cpu is best for me: i3 4130 or fx 6300?

The more I think about it, the more I get confused. I think I understand that the idea that the i3 has two 'stronger' cores whilst the fx 6300 has 6 weaker cores. Also, I have been told that for future games at least 4 cores would be advised.

The i5s are out of my price range, and I would like to play a range of new and old PC games. I won't be overclocking for the time being, any input?

Yes the i3 is very capable in games. Way more than people give it credit for. Yes the stock heatsink is fine for the i3. And yes you need to get the best video card you can afford, and that is unlikely to be either the 260x or 270.

I really recommend the i3 4130 because it outperforms a stock FX6300 most of the time, and if you overclock the FX6300 then the price shoots up quite a bit. Plus the biggest seller is getting the i3 now gives you a far better upgrade path for the future.

Would it be able to play upcoming games at all? Would I be better spending a bit extra pairing it with the r9 270 card rather than the r7 260x? And would the stock heatsink be okay? Sorry for all the questions!

Thanks for your help, how would you suggest I improve this build then?

Yes, with the r9 270 it should even run BF4!
