Hi guys!

Ok so i want to play BF4 on ultra but with my current CPU/MOBO is not possible. Specs:

Motherboard: Mobo: AM2+ Foxconn AMI A7MVX-K (4GB RAM)

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 965 (3.4GHZ)

GPU: Gigabyte 4 GB Radeon R9 270x

PSU: 800W

OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am looking for a bundle (CPU+MOBO). My budget would be under 200 pounds or under STRICTLY. I would prefer an i5 but they are quiet expensive especially if i want an 8GB RAM mobo as well, so I am quiet happy to go along with an AMD FX 4350 or something similar which will still give me a decent performace.

Thanks

Same deal only cheaper. FX is pretty good for BF4. Just no upgrade path. Pair it with a decent cooler, and even with that board, you can clock it to about 3.9-4.0 safely. A coolermaster Hyper TX3 is sufficient for that.

BF4 loves as many cores/threads as it can get, so a FX-4xxx wouldn't really be an upgrade over your X4.

You can get this for 200 pounds, VAT included:

FX-8320 8 Core CPU - £112.60
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-fx-8320-black-edition-vishera-8-core-s-am3plus-35ghz-16mb-total-cache-125w-retail

MSI 990FX Motherboard - £81.59
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-990fxa-gd65-amd-990fx-s-am3plus-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-raid-sata-pcie-20-(x16)-atx

Although that doesn't factor RAM into the equation. Look at getting an FX-6XXX and you may be able to squeeze the RAM into your budget. There are cheaper motherboards as well.

That's your best bet £200 and under.

Honestly, I would get a Haswell i3.

Better performance than any FX CPU and it has an AMAZING upgrade path (compared to the nonexistent upgrade path of AM3+)

With the above combination, you can add an overclockable i5 or i7 later and even run SLI if you wanted to. It's what I would buy.

In single player campaign mode, i3 is great. For larger 32/64 man maps, FX 6300 is a good idea, but if you think you will do a CPU upgrade in the near future, stick with the i3. You can get an i5/h81/8gb ddr3 combo for about £215, just as an FYI. If that is too much, just pop in an i3 4130 into this build.

Dang, I was afraid those were going to be singleplayer benchmarks. I should have checked the source instead of taking someone's word for it :p

Yeah, for AMD, go for the 6300. It surprisingly performs better than its bigger brother, the 8320 (in BF4)
Now, I'm not sure. Are you asking for a motherboard and a CPU and RAM for £200 or are you asking for just the CPU and motherboard? I got the impression that is was the latter from your first post.

Yes I'm looking to upgrade my CPU+MOBO( + 8GB RAM DDR3). An i5 cpu +the mobo (with the 8gb ram) would probably be a lot more than 200 right? Might just stick with the 6300....

Look at my links above. The i5 combo was about £215.

Thanks for the reply.

To be honest I am quiet tempted to go for the i5. However because this PC was originally built as an AMD PC I'm a little bit afraid to change the mobo to i5. Would it work? Would the cables for the power button be the same for the i5 mobo? This is the first time im doing something like this. But yeah the i5 bundle you have included does look attractive.

Then you will need a new case as well. i3 looks like the better idea then.

Are you sure an AMD FX 6300 would not be a better option then? I just read many other forums and loads of people preferred the 6300 over the i3. especially for bf4 multiplayer.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMD-6-Core-FX-6300-4-1Ghz-Gigabyte-78LMT-USB-3-0-Motherboard-PC-Bundle-Deal-/370838828711

I was looking at this 1. If i get 8GB RAM for this mobo it will be under my budget. I think i will go for this. Any advice?

With a budget like yours I personally would go for the FX-6300. That eBay deal looks okay.

Yes this certainly look a better bundle! I think the FX will last enough time until I have a better income and to get a better CPU (inter probably.)

Thanks for your help!
