hello guys
sometimes when i'm playing online, everything freezes suddenly for a second or so, although i have a good bandwidth, and a pretty low ping, is it caused by Jitter? (i just learned about it, before i though it's all about Bandwidth and Ping), it's a really annoying and frustrating problem, and if it's jitter, is there anything i can do to get rid of it?

Jitter has nothing to do with you or the computer.

The actual cause of jitter is down to the quality of the line you are using or the route through your Isp it takes.

Fiber optic networks suffer from less jitter due to the nature of fiber optic cables.
But if you are using for example an ADSL connection then it can be down to the lengh and the quality or sate of the copper cable from you to your local telephone exchange.

Once it hits the exchange there is also one other problem how it handles or shares its speed out, jitter can be a fluctuation in speed, so at a given time if the exchange is busy it tries to balance the data load required from it.

Its commonly called with exchanges load balancing.

To at least provide each user or client connected to the exchange with a reasonable speed.
But tends to fluctuate, rapidly in speed for each client.
In other words the speed drops and jumps of the connection but does not stay at a stable speed.

A simple test is to see at what time it happens, then try it at off peak times, example 3am in the morning. if the jitter drops then it confirms the exchange is your problem.
And very little can be done.

i'm using ADSL actually, but not for so long, and as far as i can tell, it's because of exchange, i tried my internet off peak times, and it was really near-perfect, so i'm gonna report this to my provider, thanks for your help

good luck... :):)

The reason you see issues during peak times is because too many people are trying to use the internet. It can be anyplace in the path between you and the game server. It may be completely out of your ISP control. Even if is in their network if they are experiencing overloads its not like the $39.99 you pay them will allow them to upgrade their connections to the other ISP.

You are in a way lucky with ADSL you have a dedicated connection between you and the telco pop. Cable users must share the connection between the pop and the house and if you have a bunch of neighbors who like to run torrent and stream lots of HD netflix they will eat up all the bandwidth.
