Why does Diablo 3 have a stutter/fps drop occasionally with my rig?

Hello, for some reason, I can't get a stable 60 fps for 1 hour straight when playing Diablo 3. It always stutters from time to time (like vsync turns off for 20 secs and then turns back on) and when fighting lots of mobs (mostly in multiplayer) my fps drops to around 40.

My rig:
FX-8350 4GHz
R9 290 Tri-X 4GB
8GB RAM 1333MHz DDR3
1920x1080 60Hz

I can run Battlefield 4 on 60 fps in Ultra in almost all the areas, but Diablo 3 just refuses to run smooth even when turning options like clutter and physics off.

Anything wrong with my rig that Diablo 3 doesn't like?

Yea, I've heard that aswell, cuz Diablo is the ONLY game I'm having issues with. But changing 1333MHz to 1600MHz CAN'T possibly fix the whole problem.

Some things to try:
Disable vsync. This is a very common cause of stutter.
Fullscreen. Sometimes windowed mode can cause performance anomalies.
Put Diablo on an SSD if you can. This was a huge problem when the game released, with asset loading causing terrible stutters. (it's been fixed mostly though)
Disable your virus protection.

Diablo doesn't need much in the way of graphics power. Most performance issues are from other, sometimes non-hardware related things. Excessively slow CPU, GPU, RAM, or HDD can cause issues, but you don't seem to be lacking in these areas.

I already have an SSD, and tried everything else. Didn't try disabling virus protection so I'm gonna give that a go and see how it goes.

I have had diablo issues lately as well. I did notice my cpu was throttling from overheat and have a new fan in the mail, but I never had issues before RoS patch. Battle.net forums have quite a lot of people reporting the same issue

So I've been playing some Diablo 3 this weekend, and realized that I was getting these stutters also. I didn't really notice it until level 70 while fighting multiple elites in adventure mode, but it's definitely a problem.

i5-2500K @ 4GHz
GTX 680 4GB
16GB RAM
OCZ Vertex 4 256GB

Honestly... I think it's Blizzard's network not being able to keep up with the increased demand from Reaper of Souls.

Here... Look at my fps at the bottom right
Everything on LOW, LOW FX, NO AA, NO vsync, no reflections , nothing. on 1920x1080

RIG : AMD FX 8350, Gigabyte GTX 770 4gb, Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb 1600mhz, Corsair CX600 watt,
GA-970A-UD3

(And NVIDIA settings from control panel to performance...)
Im pretty sure now its not a gpu issue...

Same shit with me man, and i have a solid set up. Every find any solutions? this is a really bad joke, a few major titles have huge stupid issues, and cheap ass indie games never have the,...its prbly the most annoying thing...like mosquito

I get 120fps, i move it seems sloppy, i get into fights single player, i drop 10-20 fps without my gpu or cpu's being fully used, i have good ram 16gig 1600mhz ram....ive tryed nvidia control panel stuff, ive tryed in game, and i have gone as far as turning all settings off just to see if i could find what causes it.....NO LUCK :( Ugh

I wish I knew the answer. I have the exact same problem you are having. I get these strange fps drops fighting or seeing other players and it's ruins the game for me. I didn't build a rig like this only to be stopped by d3. I have a 4930k 16 gigs of corsair 1600 ram an evga gtx 780 ti classified and d3 is on an ssd..... I can play crysis 3 on max at 60 fps all the time yet d3 lags? It's such bs that they can't give us a fix either.

Old post I know! But I could not let this go! 1333mhz speed ram is not going to cause games to stutter! 1333 is more than sufficient for any game! Diablo 3 was just not well optimized until they finally fixed it in a update. Someone could have read this and wasted money on new Ram they did not need!

Indeed an old post hehe, thanks for the reply anyways. Since I've posted this question, the problem has been solved by simply buying new equipment for my computer. I have a new cpu (i7 4770k) and a 144hz monitor, which elimated all the stuttering.

So your fps is stable constantly? With no stuttering? Can you provide a quick youtube video or something of gameplay with your fps and statistics?

I'm sorry, but currently that's impossible since I'm at work. I can however asure you that my fps is constantly stable without any stuttering. (haven't tested it out for longer than 30 minutes though)

My current rig:
i7 4770k 3.6GHz (Overclocked to 4.0GHz)
R9 290 Tri-X 4GB
8GB RAM 1600MHz DDR3
1920x1080 144Hz

The big difference maker to obtain flawless gameplay was the screen imo. With a 144hz, you're not forced to turn vsync on because of stuttering and stuff.

The biggest problem here its the game based on a DX9 platform dosent not need a 2200$ rig to play up to 60 fps and stop stutter like that...
