hello, im not sure what to buy, im not a gamer, my dell vostro 220s does not have a hdmi port.
It has a built in the motherboard vga output. I would like to add a video card that would "i guess" take the place of the one built in that would shpw video on ym monitor and my tv vis the hdmi port when not using the vga port.....im not aure when i read about a video card what im needing?
some have 512mb some are 1 GB all i want it for is browsing the interent and watching movies on my tv's HDM port........thanks if you can tell me what i need.
Remeber my pc is the SLIM version so the card is only about 3 inches on the face plate.....
thanks for your help
mack

Uuummmm what is your budget and can you please describe the make and model of your power supply? For daily use i would recommend a GT 630 of Nvidia: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
This card can do a little gaming if you think of it in the near future.

I got a better idea:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
This will convert VGA to HDMI and much cheaper than buying a new card.

Note: he needs a low profile video card in that computer:

Depends how fast his current integrated graphics is.
There's video cards that cheap too (not good ones, but there are
), but if he has a good integrated, you may be right. However, did he say he needed two ports?kentuckynet, did you say that you actually need two monitors plugs? One for a TV and one for a monitor?

BTW, for those of you suggesting video cards, he has a GMA X4500HD integrated graphics ... so maybe that will help you in suggesting which video card to get or if he should get one.

i want to leave my monitor hooked up to the vga and have a seperate hdmi plug for my switch i use thats feeds my tv's hdmi port. I have my dish network bix that gors to a hdmi switch box, so i want to have this card tied to that same switch box when i want to watch movies off my pc, its ok if my lcd monitor goes off during this time but i dont want to be moving cables each time.

Well in that case, you will want a new video card, but....
You should then connect all your devices to the new video card.
BTW, does your monitor have DVI, HDMI, or Displayport? It is best to avoid VGA whenever you can. (VGA is analog; LCD monitors are digital. Digital produces a perfect image, analog has some minor quality loss, so why not use the perfect image one
). Once you get a new video card you will be able to use one of the better digital connections if your monitor also has one.
Also, do you just want a video card that is as slow as your current one? Or would you like a little bit extra for gaming ... as in just a tad faster or maybe a decent gaming card?
What price range?

Here's a video card that should work for you:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
However, since I'm not 100% sure of the exact model onboard graphics you have, I can't be certain, but I think it might be a tad slower in games I think ... or if it is a different model, then the card in the link might be a lot faster.

GT 520 is better in every aspect as compared to his built-in graphic card. Sorry i suggested the bigger card here is the low profile card that you: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
It is only 4$ expensive and performs much well then gt 520.

Go to the site imgur.com create an account there and then upload the pic and past us the "Direct Link" on your next post. The faceplate is not large it is a low profile graphic card the picture is zoomed in that is why faceplate looks large to you. Do this measure the size of the slot and tell us those measurement.

Maybe you have SFF. Maybe you can try my way. I had a SFF and a low profile card whose bracket was big so i removed the bracket and brought the VGA cable from the lower bracket. See this picture: (http://i.imgur.com/6YY4ef3.jpg)

even that last cards faceplate is too large...how can i put a picture of the size of the card i need on this site? i dont see any way to upload a photo?Oh, I see what you mean about the faceplate. Didn't think of that. (It's a shame it needs a narrower faceplate.) Can you just do what goku said and measure the width (and height) of your faceplate on the back of the computer?

Also, if you look at the other images, the backplate does look like it can be removed.

That would work also but it is too simple. Try this card: http://www.amazon.com/Inno3D-Geforce-graphics-express-p...
It is better than GT 610 and come with dual bracket so that you can bring your VGA cable come from the lower slot.

thanks but im lookinf for something cheap as it will just be used for browsing the net and watching hd movies on the tv..no games ever of any kind....do i still need the more expenxive one? i do want one that will last...though.....not soo cheap its jink either. It should work things like that (web browsing and playing a video) ... at least other people report it does. I haven't actually checked benchmarks to be 100% sure.
Note that the card will take up two slots (due to the heatsink), but I think you have enough empty space for that.

If you want a cheap, silent and one that can browse and let you watch video Geforce 210 1 Gb will be more than enough. believe me i use that card for about a year and played sleeping dogs on it. It is a good card and some will say that it is bad but i tried and nothing can beat personal experience. Although what is your processor?

Your Dell Vostro 220s is a slim tower and will not take full heiht PCI-E cards.Furthermore, you only support low-profile cards, however your current needs will not require a full height high-end card.Furthermore you only have a 250W power supply.Hence i suggest;a 5450HD --> http://adf.ly/k51JT
a GT630 -- > http://adf.ly/k517Q
I think i suggested the GT 630 above and to OP it is expensive and above his needs. Geforce 210 1GB will be more than enough for his needs. Or geforce GT 610 will be enough.
