So my current build is: AMD FX-8120 CPU. Asus M5A97LE R2.0 MoBo. EVGA GTX 650 Gpu. Corsair HX 650w PSU. 8g single stick Patriot 1333 ram. 1TB Seagate HDD. All packed inside the CM Storm Scout case.
I'm upgrading the video card to the EVGA GTX 7704g w/ACX cooler. Upgrading the CPU Cooler to the Corsair H50 water cooler. And Upgrading the RAM to 2x4 G.skills Ripjaw X series 1600 ram.
Am I making the right choices here?

Those are all good parts. I would maybe consider grabbing a solid state drive too if you don't have one. Just to put your os and a game or two on.

That is definitely the next step! So to your knowledge, I should have no problems with these components? I built it all on PC part picker and it claims they are compatible.

Yea your mobo should be able to run all of those parts together no problem.
