TFT LCD vs IPS?

I could not find a lot of info on TFT LCD. I looked it up on wiki but I remember hearing somewhere that TFT was besed on IPS but can be more precise maybe....So I just would like to know if it is better in anyway or an IPS panel or a PLS panel

IPS has better image quality but most iv seen them go on refresh rate at 60hz tft lcd can be more useful for gamers etc as some monitors have very low response time at 1ms and 144hz refresh rates so it depends what your using the monitor for.

Nor are all TFT or IPS panels identical. There are some really great TFT and some crappy IPS and vice versa.

Aside from the panels there are other design issues such as strobing.

You should read up on the upcoming Asus G-Sync monitor that is 2560x1440 @144Hz when it comes out (April?).

That monitor does look sweet. The thing I don't get about G-sync marketing is that the first monitor they used was 144hz with 1ms response. and virtually no input lag at all. This would be better demonstrated on a nice 60hz panel than was not as fast as TN. I would like to see G-Sync on other panel types sooner rather than later either way I will have to make it part o my Upgrade plan. GPU/Display/??

It's only the GAMERS that would be paying a premium, so it makes sense to use a gaming monitor with lower lag and higher refresh. Plus the ability to do 3D games/movies likely.

Plus with G-Sync you are no longer forced to be above the refresh rate (since VSYNC ON below it causes issues). So you can run at 60FPS average if you wish.

I'm sure 60Hz IPS panels will come fairly soon as well for people like me who prefer the slight quality difference and don't require more than 60FPS.
