I am trying to install windows 7 on my laptop Dell Inspiron 14' 3421. When the step to select the partition on which windows has to be installed comes, my HDD is not shown. I tried installing drivers from USB, downloading them from dell web but even there the drivers are not detected.

Have you tried swapping between IDE and AHCI mode in BIOS for hdd?
Here is way to flash your hdd drivers during installation and make sure you do it right.
