First let me tell you my specs.
Alienware M18x r1
CPU: i7 2670QM
RAM: 8GB 1600Mhz
HDD: 2x 750GB WD scorpio black raid 0
Video Card: 560m 1.5GB

My question is which is worth buying the 780m 4GB or 880m 8GB?
Also will I need a new heatsink for either of them or will mine be fine?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Well the new 880m has some new features supported by Nvidia drivers i.e. Battery saver, Shadowplay, and some others. Performance wise, the 880m is a bit better but if your just looking at performance, its not really worth it. Unless, of course, you want to set up an nvidia surround where the extra vram will really help, otherwise the 780m will work just fine for atleast another year, maybe even more.

Sorry, I'm not so sure about something like that. Alienware/Dell has a support line. You could ask them if you need a new heatsink.
