Hello all, OK so here is what i need help with. I recently acquired an Samsung 128GB 840 Pro series SSD as a birthday present from my mother. I built my own computer in December of 2013, the specs I will list below. Here is the deal with this SSD what I learned was that you want your OS to be installed on an SSD to have the fastest performance, I currently have everything installed on the only Hard drive in my computer a Western Digital 1TB HDD. But I am wondering what should I do if I want to install my OS on this new SSD, which I want to put into my PC now. What would be the best way of going about it? as to not lose the information on my current HDD and still load the OS onto this new SSD if even possible, Thanks in advance for the responses.

Sean

Solution
1) Disconnect the 1TB HDD. Only connect the SSD and DVD, not other storage drive.
2) Boot the PC, go to the BIOS to set the boot order like 1st=DVD, 2nd=SSD, saving and exit. Put the win7 or win8 disc into the DVD.
3) rebot the PC, then follow the link to install the OS. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html I recommend to clean install the OS into the SSD, if you want to use Samsung Data Migration Software, then don't use the AMD sata ahci controller driver, because the software does only support the intel, NVIDIA, or microsoft sata controller driver. 4) After done...

The easiest way is to do a clean install of your OS onto the SSD. I would highly recommend this, it might seem like more work but realistically it will save time in the long run.

If you don’t want to do a fresh install for whatever reason. What you will need to do is move all of your large files (movies etc) onto another drive. Then delete, uninstall or move the stuff off your 1tb until you have less than 128gb of stuff left on that drive. Once you have less than 128gb left on that drive you can clone that drive onto your SSD. If you don’t have a second HDD lying around to transfer the extra files onto this method won’t really work.

4) After done the installation, tweak the SSD with that software or Useful SSD Articles - Part 2 section Tweaks / Optimization. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/270102-32-useful-articles-part and install all other drivers like network, AMD chipset, audio, GPU driver, etc. And finally reconnect the 1TB HDD.
5) Back to the BIOS to make sure the boot order is the SSD because your 1TB has the OS. Check the manual for more info.
