I would like to know if my old PSU is enough for the new GPU I bought:

Asus Geforce GTX 760 DirectCU II OC 2Gb

I am not familiar with the rails and amps and so on, and when bought the GPU only thought the wattage amount is important. I later noticed that the GPU has a statement:

"Minimum 500W power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 38A)"

Antec Earthwatts EA-650 650W (a couple of years old model) and it states the amps as:

"12V/1 (22 A), 12V/2 (22 A), 12V/3 (24 A) max load: 540W".

The PSU has two PCI-E power connectors with 6+2 pins from which the other connects to the GPU (8-pin). The system starts ok and the graphics card is recognized. I'm just worried if my system will die under load due to old or inadequate PSU.

The GPU came with an extra cable which connects two 6-pin PCI-E power cords to one 8-pin GPU power slot. Is there a difference of using the 6+2 from PSU directly to GPU in contrast to using 2 x 6 (without the +2-pins) from PSU with the adapter to GPU?

I tried searching through these forums, but didn't find an answer that would clearly state what the outcome is.

Any help is appreciated!

your psu is more than enough for that gpu, you can run it safely on a 450w psu with a decent 12v rail (and brand like antec, seasonic, etc) i have a 7870 running on a antec neo eco 520W if that makes you feel safer about it.

To add to this, probably the only reason you'd need to use that extra cable is if for some reason the ones from the PSU just don't reach it. It shouldn't make any difference whether you use it or not.

Thank you for the timely response. I tried and confirmed the setup working after your response, and everything seems to be running stable for the 2nd day now.
