what is the bottleneck in my system?

Let me make it clearer, recently my games have been getting slower and slower with each new release, to the point where im having to play games on minimum settings to get a high fps, my question is which do you think is the weakest part in my system;

Windows Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz

Graphics Card: GeForce 9800 GT

Total RAM: 8.0 GB

Also another quick question, is there any windows 7 optimization things that make a big difference or is it purely my graphics card? If it is my card, is there any foolproof overclocking applications if it can be overclocked that I can't go wrong with? Never overclocked before so don't want to break anything. :)

Well your GPU is long in the tooth now, so you need to upgrade that first. Next to that, the i3 2120 is only a dual core CPU, so games made for more cores may perform slower than if you had a quad core.

I would upgrade your GPU first ,and later on upgrade to a quad i5/i7.

I'm just wanting to run current gen in medium graphical settings without hang ups/fps loss, finally had enough of it after having a stuttery experience in an indie game lol ><.

We really can't justify spending much at all on the computer at the moment, maybe in a few months i could get a 60-70 quid gpu, is there any short term fixes that could give it a little boost for awhile or is overclocking a gpu as old as mine futile/pointless?

For current Gen on medium the i3 should still be able to handle it. But it is pretty much the minimum spec you can get away with.

I'd upgrade the GPU first. Get the best single GPU you can afford, even if it is a bit much for the i3 to handle. Then start saving and make plans for a CPU upgrade to i5 or i7. (Depending on your current board and RAM, you *may* need to upgrade these as well so do your research before buying.)
