I just finished building my first pc today, I am quite sure that I put everything together correctly as everything in the case turns on when I power up, but nothing shows up on the screen (LG E2342V-BN). I'm not sure what I have done wrong here or what I can do to fix it. I pulled everything out of the case and carefully reinstalled it making sure I did everything properly, I have tried VGA from the motherboard to screen and HDMI cable from both motherboard and graphics cards and I am still having the same problem, I do not have access to a dvi-d cable right now, if I ordered one it would not arrive until sometime next week, but I am wondering if that would actually help or if there is another issue.

Build is as follows...
Intel Core i5 4570
Antec True Power Classic 550W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
Samsung 840 EVO Series 120GB SSD
G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL (2x4GB) DDR3
Western Digital WD Blue 1TB WD10EZEX
XFX Radeon R9 290 4GB Double Dissipation
ASUS B85M-G Motherboard

Would love any advice, please ask me if you need any other information, I live in a very rural area so I don't have much in the way of help. Thank you.

Awesome guide - here's a quick test tho:

Connect the monitor the mobo's VGA output, uninstall the GPU, and try that. If it powers up, then it's some issue with your GPU - could be PSU is not up to the task (it should be) or doesn't like HDMI output.

Hi, thank you for the link, I am still having the same issue, even after removing everything from the case except the power, mother board and processor it will not connect to a screen (either HDMI or VGA) I have tried it on 2 different computer screens now, Is this a problem with my motherboard? The little green light on it lights up when I power on, not sure if that means anything.

Just got it to show up on the screen (motherboard and VGA), but as soon as I connect my graphics card the motherboard/VGA connection wont show up on screen and I can't get it to connect with HDMI from graphics card, is there a setting I can change in BIOS to fix this?

I have now installed Windows 8 on my SSD. Wondering if/how I can change the default graphics on the motherboard so it will accept my gpu when I install it?

You aren't trying to put the GPU in while you have the computer power on are you? And the motherboard will automatically switch over to the GPU when one is installed (or at least, it should). There should be a setting in the BIOS about setting the video out, you'll want to select PCIe.

I am making sure that everything is powered off when installing the GPU, even removing the power supply cord. I found out how to change the default graphics to PCIe in the BOIS, but I can only see my screen when connected to the motherboard with VGA when the graphics card is not in, I can't seem to find the correct drivers online for my card as I can't get the disk to launch on my new computer, I can get into it and look around in the folders but the Setup.exe will not run.
