Best build possible for about 420$?

alright.

so what i have in mind is this..

i want to have a nice build that incorporates 8350,8320 or i5 3570k, 4670k.

it must be good at overclocking.
i need a case. (i prefer windowed)

i need a suitable psu
and a good OCing mobo, would the m5a97 be as good as the m5a99x for overclocking?

i can go around 420$ at max

You don't have a GPU? I don't know how far it will get without one. What are you planning to do with this build?

You still need RAM, HDD, and a graphics card.
Your budget will not support any of your preferred chips.
Take a look at this month's $750 SBM machine. If you drop the graphics card down to a HD7770, you'll save $220, but you're still looking at $550, plus an OS if you need it.

i can also get an OS from my dreamspark account with microsoft

I can't visit links like that at work.

Anyway, if you subtract what you have from that SBM build, it looks like you'll get down to around $400, maybe a bit less. If so, I'd improve the motherboard first, to one that has the USB3.0 header on it, perhaps a H87 board.

If you look here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-your-own-budget-gaming-pc,3780.html and remove the parts you already have, it looks like what remains is within your budget, possibly with a little left over. I'd use any left over on a nicer motherboard ahead of the i5, but your preferences may be different.

I'd take the Intel build. If your budget has that wiggle room in it, that's the one I'd choose.
Check on other 120mm tower coolers. Brands other than CM will offer similar performance but may cost less.

I know Im a little late but I would go with the intel build. i3 can work for gaming but thats about it. If you can fit it in go for in i5 like Seeking Solace said.

i chose 1155 because its a little bit cheaper.

It is also a generation older. With the combo deal AND mail in rebates that Microcenter offer for the 5670k and ASrock mobo, it should be a better deal with much more freedom when it comes to upgrading down the years.
The mail in rebates might also explain why you came to 440 instead of 401 when you added up the total.

Yes. I have an i5-3570K and a FX-8320. The i5 is definitely faster. That isn't to say the FX is bad (it isn't), but the i5 is faster.
