Just a question, If I use my home pc to tunnel traffic from another pc situated somewhere else will the other pc be limited by my home pc's internet connection ?, assume it's slower. Guessing the answer is yes, but just asking

Solution
You concept is correct you just do not have a good enough internet at your house. You only have a few options. You use one of the many public vpn/proxy sites...most you must pay to get good speed. Or you find a friend that has a good internet connection that will let you use it. Many times places with restrictive polices also block the public vpn site to prevent you from bypassing them. In that case the only real solution is to buy service from a generic hosting center and run your VPN on your own sever, these are seldom blocked in the lists but it is the most expensive way to bypass a restrictive firewall policy.

So if the second computer has an adsl connection of let's say 20mbps and my home computer has a 10mbps adsl connection, basically I would be restricted to the 10mbps download speed of my home connection ?

Its even worse. You would be restricted by the UPLOAD speed depending on the direction of the traffic and on ADSL upload is much lower the download speeds.

Now if for example you were to take the second computer and go though the home computer to access a external web site. The traffic from the external server to the home computer would be restricted by the home computer download speed. The home computer would then send the traffic to the second computer but this is now upload speed since it it being send from the home computer.

Ok, that renders this pretty much useless considering my slow internet connection. I was actually wanting to bypass my varsity's speed restriction on the ftp protocol and data cap by encrypting the traffic. Any ideas on that ?, don't want to get expelled or anything but I have seen allot of guys streaming on youtube quite allot and youtube is completely blocked, so I wonder how they get around it. I tried those stupid web based proxies but they are way too slow
