Hi all, I put together a fresh build this morning here are the basics of the system:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.99 @ NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($30.98 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($119.99 @ Microcenter)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($139.99 @ Best Buy)
Power Supply: SeaSonic G-750 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($79.99 @ Newegg)
I went with 16GB G.Skill Trident X Series RAM, 2 x 8gb
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

When I boot I get the following bios error:
"The following channel memory did not pass CPU test. Please remove the memory then plug again.
Channel B"

If I put both sticks in channel A it boots fine and Win7Pro recognizes 16GB RAM. If I put one stick in channel A and one in Channel B I get the error listed above. If I boot with either stick just in channel A it boots fine. If I put a stick in either slot for channel B it will not even boot.

I am guessing it is a faulty motherboard but thought I would ask if there was anything else I might try or that I might be doing wrong. I have the sticks in the right slots for dual channel setup per the manual.

Thanks!

-Joe

Just to check I pulled 16 GB of G.Skill DDR3 1600 Ram out of my current rig and installed that and got the same error. Should I flash the BIOS or is that even worth trying?

Are you putting them in A2 & B2? Or are you trying to install into A1 & B1? Try both and see what happens.

I have tried both A1 and B1 and A2 and B2. One stick in B1 will not boot, one stick in B2 will not boot, one stick in each B1 and B2 will not boot.

Thanks,

Sounds like a problem with the motherboard. You can definitely try updating the BIOS, can't hurt (unless you do it wrong!) If that doesn't work, I would RMA the board

That is kind of what I figured. Thanks!

BIOS flash did not solve it. Off to RMA it I guess. I have never dealt with Microcenter before, I hope they are good to work with.

Shouldn't be too bad, especially if it's just a new build. Sorry your issue didn't get fixed :(  good luck with the next one!
