Well the 7870 is a bit older, a better comparison might be a 270x v gtx 760, where blows are traded on either side. But to answer your question they would offer very similar performance with the 760 being slightly better.

Youre right, the 270x isnt a 7950 rebranded. The new 280 (non x) is a rebranded 7950.
