Hello there.
The CD/DVD drive on my computer is unresponsive. It will not eject,it does not read discs,it has vanished from 'My Computer' and is not visible in any section in device manager.

I have searched for numerous solutions, these including:
- downloading firmware updates
- editing registry and using registry editing software
- using 'microsoft fix' it and other troubleshooting applications
- refreshing my pc
- using disk management and command prompt.

The reason why I have not replaced the drive is because I believe it's not a hardware problem. My pc is only one year old, it is of medium-high spec and just recently( 3 months) I have had this problem fixed by a professional but It has since resurfaced.

I believe my cd drive is a Samsung 24x SH-224DB/BEBE Sata DVD Writer.
I would really appreciate any solutions that anyone might have.:)

My specs are as follows:

OS: WINDOWS 8.1
SYSTEM MANUFACTURER: GIGABYTE
MODEL: Z68AP-D3
BIOS: V6.00
PROCESSOR: Intel i5-2500k @ 3.30ghz

MEMORY: 12GB RAM
GRAPHICS CARD: Nvidia GTX-560Ti 1gb
HDD: 1 TB

What exactly do you mean "refreshing the PC"? Wipe it to factory defaults? If you did that, it's not a Windows issue. Try reseating the drive, and check to see if it shows up in the BIOS. If you don't see it in the BIOS, replace the drive. If this happened before and was fixed, why not just ask whoever fixed it what the issue was then?
