Computer turns off-on when booting, peripherals do not work

I cleaned my PC with a vacuum cleaner today, and since then, I've had trouble with it. The only thing except vacuuming I did was taking the RAM sticks out, and putting them back in after cleaning.

My problems consist of this: When I turn the computer on, it (all the fans and lights in the case, anyway) turn on, and turn off again after a few seconds. (Oddly, this interval is shorter - around a second - if the RAM is taken out before starting the computer). After turning off, it turns on again and everything seems to be normal. But I get no sound out of my speakers, I get no picture on my monitor, and my keyboard doesn't seem to get any power (no lights).

I don't know if it's relevant, but my motherboard has a red light shining while the computer is on. I don't know if that was the case before my troubles started.

My motherboard has a kind of lock to put the RAM in, I put it in well enough to close that lock, snapping it down. This requires a bit of pressure on the side where the locks are situated, though.

Sorry, what I wrote above should have been tagged as a reply.

I'm afraid I'm not too good with computers, but it's a Sabertooth from ASUS. That's all I know :( I appreciate the help hugely.

There are two things.

1. If the vacuum that you used is not meant for computers (Shop-vac or normal house use) then it is highly possible that when you use it inside the PC that static buildup could have damaged your motherboard causing component failure and power shorts.

http://www.howtogeek.com/57870/ask-how-to-geek-why-you-should-never-vacuum-your-pc-converting-books-for-the-kindle-and-controlling-multiple-computers-with-one-keyboard/

2. The memory is having an issue. Try one memory stick at a time, try different slots also.

Thank you, I will try that.

I've read a lot on this website about similar issues before I posted, and it does seem likely that the motherboard is damaged. I guess that if nothing else works I'll have to get a new one.

This is embarrassing. Thank you for all your help, I tried everything and I'm not sure but I think that the solution was simply that I didn't connect the RAM sticks well enough. Anyway, I've learned a lot from this so hopefully I won't be making such a silly mistake in the future. Cheers for all the help.
