Hello. I have GTX 550 Ti (non-overclocked) and i have an issue that appears every now and then when i play games. The FAN at my graphics card goes really down (to about 90rpm from 1500rpm), thus my GPU wents up to 100*C and my PC reboots.
In overclocking software like Gigabyte OC_GURU (which i have) and nvidia overclocking stuff it says that the fan is working at it's 100% power and i can't speed it up anyhow.

Any ideas what may cause the issue?

Set custom fan profile on msi afterburner and see if that helps. Set the speed you want it to run. Also update the drivers and check the power supply to the gpu.

Yeah, sounds like your fan has gone bad or is going bad. I had this same problem with my 560ti. The only things you can do about that is look for another fan for your specific 550ti, buy a aftermarket cooler, or just buy a new GPU. I recommend you just save some money and get a new GPU as that one is starting to get a little old, and the aftermarket coolers are a bit expensive. If your looking to stay in the budget price range get the GTX 750 as that is a really nice budget card.

I did set a custom profile in Gigabyte OC_GURU application and it did not really help. Does that matter to use msi afterburner? Doubt it will make difference.
Drivers are up to date.

How do i check if my GPU has enough power?

Most likely the fan is on its way out.
In some cases it's possible to disassemble the fan and apply a small drop of oil or graphite grease to the bearing. Have a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMD4GTX-kws

Ugh i am not familiar with the UI of this website yet and i accidentally marked your post as one with a solution.

Anyway, the fan works nicely in general. It spins at nice speed. That issue only happens like once in 2 weeks. Is that still a sign if it's near death?

From personal experience, I'd say its going out. Thats how my GPU started. I'd looking into upgrading.

Did you buy this from a store or from a person? Because this may very well be the reason they wanted to get rid of it. Now I may be wrong, but from what your telling me it looks like fan failure.

I bought it from a store. I will give it to them then (i think i still have warranty papers) and let's see what they tell me. I don't really want to buy a new one because i just spent money on this one.
