I've been playing games laggy for the last 5 years. My internet provider is Verizon Fios. I started out with the 5mpbs internet plan. But, recently upgraded to Verizon Quantum 50mpbs plan, thinking it would fix my lag. But im still lagging. My ping will jump between 15-999 ping! and go back and forth. it fluctuates like crazy. I know it's not the sever's problem because i play on servers with the lowest ping possible, but still get lag spikes. I tried calling verizon for help and they just told me to do some port changing for the games i play. I did what they asked but it hasn't worked. Can anyone help me please ?

oh yeah. im connected through an ethernet cable.

I play games like Team Fortress 2, C/S 1.6, DOD 1.3, and COD 4.

I live in Los Angeles, California

You want to run a ping from the command line rather than the game. The game include lots of things that are not network in its ping.

I would open multiple cmd windows and ping the game server, your router in the house and the first router in the ISP network.

If you see actual network delays outside your house then there is not a lot you can do. Many times what you will see no issues in the ping cmds or you will see issues to the router. This generally means that the game itself is doing something to cause the lag. Many times it is something like a video driver or some other setting in the game itself. The ping in the game measures everything including delays in the game server, it is a better representation of the game performance but it does not always correctly represent the network connection
