I'm resurrecting an old computer from the dead. When I built it in 2005 I was on a budget. I built a new one in 2012 to play the new games and because the old computer started getting a little buggy. With the old computer, in 2012, I could only play a few games that came out in 2007 and older. I know that I won't be able to play any newer games with this setup, but would like to play some that are newer than 2007. It's being used as a secondary general purpose computer.

I'm upgrading to Win7 Pro, Samsung 840EVO SSD and more RAM (the MOBO only supports a maximum of 4GB). I'm thinking that as long as I'm doing this I should consider upgrading the MOBO to a top tier board that will support my P4 CPU, has PCI slots and an AGP slot for my graphics card. Sorry for the long intro, but I would appreciate it if you would recommend a MOBO that will fit my needs, thanks.

This is what I have now:
Motherboard: Intel D865PERL, ATX, Socket 478, Chip Set: 865PE, four-188 pin DDR SDRAM slots supporting DDR400, DDR 333 and DDR 266, supports up to 4GB of RAM. Audio: SoundMax 4XL w/ AD1985 codex (disabled). Masscool, P4 /Copper Cooling fan up to 3.4 GHz.

Operating System: Upgrading from XP SP3 to Windows 7, PRO.

RAM: 2-PNY 1GB PC3200 DDR 400MHz CL3, timing: 3, 4, 4, 1, and 2 @ 2.5 volts (01/17/2012).
2-Kingston Value RAM, 2GB Kit, 400MHz, PC3200 DDR Memory.

Video Card: HIS Radeon HD 4670, 1GB DDR3, 128-bit DDR3 memory interface, AGP, Dual DVI. Overclocked to: GPU Clock: 790MHz / Memory Clock: 890MHz (via AMD Overdrive “Auto Tune”).

Hard Drive: Samsung 840EVO, 120 GB, SSD.

Hard Drive: Original (will be wiped and used for storage) Western Digital 320GB, Serial ATA, WD3200 AAKS-00SBA0.

Power Supply: ULTRA LSP 550 watt power supply with the following numbers: +3.3v/24amps, +5v/17amps, +12v/41amps, -12v/0.3amps, +5VSB/2.5amps.

Floppy drive added 03/23/2014.

DVD-Rom added 03/23/2014: Phillips SPD2413P

PCI Network card.

Case: Ultra ATX, 120mm rear case fan, 80mm front case fan.

Look like you need upgrade the whole PC, because 1) your MB is old 478 socket, 2) RAM are the DDR type, 3) GPU is the AGP type, 4) the PSU is not good too. But you can reuse the SSD and the WD HDD, if the DVD is the SATA format then you can reuse it too. I don't know the case, it may or may not fit all the components because you don't list the name or model.

Here I add the list for the new PC components.

I was afraid you were going to say that. Yep, it's old and slow (like me). Over the years I've upgraded just about everything to its limit. It looks like I'll have to keep it as is, which is fine for general use, thanks for the reply.

Just what I was looking for. I've got a couple of questions into one of the sellers. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Thanks, they're just about giving those away. Last week I bought a refirbed HP printer through Walmart. It arrived DOA and I had to jump through several hoops and a really long and aggravating phone call before HP would send me a new print head.

There are two Asus MOBOs on the link from Calvin7 that I am considering. One looks complete with a 3.0 processor and a little RAM, the other looks less used, has no RAM, missing the rear plate and the seller doesn't know if there is a processor under the fan. Don't know if I could find a rear plate as these are circa 2004.

Well,I don't know how to select Calvin7's response as the Best Answer or how to consider this Solved but it is. Thanks, again Calvin7, the old gal is back up and running fast and smooth.
