Computer strange after multiple re-formats

So, I have this very old computer (I'm getting a new one in 2 weeks, but I need this one to work for those 2 weeks), and after I re-formatted it, things have been acting up.

First time reformatting it, everything seemed fine for the first 2 hours, but after that, I couldn't really go on games. For example, I would open up the LoL launcher but then, the login screen wouldn't come up after clicking play. Other problems included not being able to close things in task manager, and not being able to open folders. After trying to log off, it'd just say "logging off" for ages (waited for 2 hours before I gave up). After shutting the computer down with the power button, I tried to log back on but when it did, it got stuck at "Welcome" for over 6 hours.

I decided that it might have just been a bad re-format or something so I did it again. Yet again, everything was fine for the first 2 hours but then it happened again. Folders wont opening, games weren't opening, explorer.exe would randomly stop working and close itself, the computer would freeze.

One thing I also noticed is that if I leave the computer on the desktop for too long (about 5 minutes), it'd come up with "Microsoft Windows - The application is not responding. The program may respond again if you wait. Do you want to end this process?" and the whole screen will turn into a whiter shade.
It would take about 40+ minutes of constant restarting to actually get into a game.

Is there any potential fix for this? This wasn't occurring before the reformat.

Yes, if you select the disk and look to the right there should be surface test. This will test the entire hard drive so it will take a few hours.

It finished scanning, although no errors were found in the HDD.
