Hey guys quick question...

I have a P7P55D EVO mobo with a XFX HD 5850 graphics card... I believe the card has been damaged during a move and so I will be needing to replace it (as I have no idea if it could even be repaired)

anyway.. I've been out of touch with most things computer technical for a while and so I have no idea what's what anymore.

So I guess I'd like to know if I some of the newer products (PCI Express 2.1-3.0) out there will be compatible with my motherboard (PCI Express 2.0)... Also what would be a good comparable product to what I have and is it possible to achieve the same or better output for under $250? I really have no idea what I'm doing with this stuff anymore as my brain has cleared out all my knowledge on the matter to make room for knowledge on baby changing.

Also, to give an idea as to what sort of performance I require... I'd like to be able to play a game such as Star Wars the Old Republic, on a higher to highest graphic setting without having any performance issues associated to the graphics card.

Thanks much in advance for any help/advice!

Solution
If your power supply can handle it, for $250 you can get a GTX760, twice the performance of a 5850.

2285 Passmark vs 4999 Passmark

I know Pass mark is only close, but that far apart, it is pretty reliable.

Not a gamer, but video card go pretty close to performance and price.
The next one down is AMD R9- 270X followed by the non X.

AMD cards are a bit overprice now because of coin mining, but the x original sold for $199 and the non X for $179

The 660 is just under the R9-270 in performance in some benchmarks, but is usually a little more expensive.
Although coin mining has evened that out
2.0 or newer should be no problem with compatibility, the problem is with 1.0 slots not...

2.0 or newer should be no problem with compatibility, the problem is with 1.0 slots not always being backward compatible, even thought they are supposed to be.
