Here's the situation as short as possible. I went to to play a game, noticed the colour in the menu was glitchy (purple threads were visible)! I looked online and found that I should manually update my display driver (GeForce something)! Went to play the game- it crashed. Turned off and on my laptop, clicked 'start windows normally' and all I get is lots of colourful thread like things. I went into safe mode rolled back the driver update I did. That didn't work. Then did a system restore. Now all I get is a black screen with just my cursor in the safe mode! What else can I do!?

Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums!

You did the right things, including a 'System Restore' that you say did not produce results.

The next thing to do is to use your computer backup and restore your computer to a previous backup when the computer worked well.

If you don't have a backup, start the computer with the Windows CD/DVD and do a repair. If not, re-install Windows and re-activate it using your activation code.

Try starting the computer in 'Safe Mode'
