i have sound through my tv when the hdmi cable is connected but no sound on my laptop when i disconnect the hdmi cable

I have sound when I am connected to the TV, but when I disconnect the HDMI cable I no longer have sound. None of the sound devices in the control panel seem to be turned off. Can you suggest a solution to this problem?

Your post is rather vague but reading between the lines I suggest you right click the speaker icon in the systray (lower right) and select 'playback devices' then find the playback device you wish to activate and 'set default'.
