The "kind of 'u'" means Micro and is generally applied to Micro-ATX motherboards. "Mini" generally refers to Mini-ITX (a completely different form-factor) and is the smaller of the two form-factors; having between zero and two expansion slots, whereas the Micro-ATX motherboard will have three or four expansion slots.
