Booting up with black screen.

Hi guys,

Sometimes, when I start the computer, after the animated windows and welcome logos, where you would expect the desktop to show, i get a black screen with the pointer on it.
If i ctrl alt del i get the task manager and other log off screen.
Does anyone know why this happens?
It doesn't happen every time i start up the PC, it happens say 50% of the time.

I appreciate the help.

I have windows 7 SP 1

Reasons for that kind of problem can be difficult to track down since it's intermittent, but you may want to try running the System File Checker: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

You may also want to look in the Event Viewer for any clues immediately after experiencing the black screen:
Control Panel > Admin Tools > Event Viewer

I ran the SFC and it found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
After that i restarted the pc, and the black screen issue did not repeat.
However, since it's intermittent i cannot say for sure that the cause is gone,If it happens again i'll just check the event viewer, but I'm optimistic.
I'll check the CBS.log file provided and see what i can get from there.

    Thanks alot for the help.
  3. Since SFC found and replaced corrupt files, there's a good chance that is what was causing your problem. Fingers crossed:)
