Hello guys!

I wish to completely get rid of mechanical hard drives and only have ssds. I currently have a 250GB Kingston Hyper X 3k ssd. I finally saved up enough to buy a second one of these ssds. Should I buy it and run both of them in raid0? This is just a gaming PC so I won't be storing any valuable data in there. Just windows and all the games which are backed up to the steam cloud.

Should I go ahead and do it?

Also if one of the drives fail, I am aware that I will loose all of the data stored on both drives. However does that mean I'll loose the second drive aswell in terms of usability? Or can I just format it and use it again as a stand alone drive?

There really isn't a point to running RAID 0 with SSDs. Larger capacity SSDs are faster, and they're already fast enough so that all RAID does is increase your chances of failure. Don't bother with it - buy a 512GB ssd if you really have to have it.

That being said, it's still an abject waste of money.

Think about it - you install battlefield on your SSD. WOO HOO, it loads faster !@!!!! ...oh wait, you still have to wait for everyone ELSE to load before the match can begin.

You really only see a benefit from games that have loading screens that you want to make go away. Think MMOs, or half-life, or Skryim.

It makes a LOT more sense to just buy a 1TB hard drive for $70 and a 120GB SSD for $120 and have more storage for basically no...
Hi wOrmhOlez ,
You certainly can run them in raid 0 you will get faster game loading times however this will not make your games fps ( frames per second ) any faster
another thing to be aware of is if you tie the two ssd's together in raid0 , depending on your motherboard you may lose the ability for the trim command to work,

i would advise not tying them in raid0 and just keep them as individual drives, your games will still load fast and you will still have trim

Hi there,
Considering you are using the SSD for "gaming" there's not much use for it apart from windows booting faster and games loading faster.
But if you still want to go ahead with it then of course you will loose all the data on both drives if one fails.
You should be able to plug the other one into the motherboard directly and re format it.
Long term if you want to go ahead with raid I would recommend raid 10 as this is the safest way to keep all your data and keep up the performance.
