So I was snooping around the forum for deals and decided to puchase an i5-3570k, good motherboard, and a decent cooler for 180. This was a good deal shipped in my opinion. The seller also asked if I wanted an hd 7970 for 200 dollars. I was already planning on getting a used 670 for around 210.
Which is better for gaming under 1600 by 900, i know they are both overkill. I think the 7970 is older, but which will i have to upgrade later and which has a better resale. Also the 670 was used for testing a bsod but really hasn't been used. I do not know the use on the 7970. I think it is a windforce since it has three fans but I am not sure.

They're both about the same generation. If anything, the GTX 670 might be a tad 'older'. You're right, they are both great for 1600x900. You will be able to max out any game at that resolution. I think most HD 7970s come with 3GB VRAM, while the GTX 670 'only' has 2GB. But that is a moot point at your resolution. Maybe this will help you decide: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-7970-vs-GeForce-GTX-6...

Of course a lot will depend on the game. Some perform better with Nvidia, and some with AMD.
