Hi guys
ive just been given a OCZ stealthstream 600w psu to replace the 500w stealthstream i currently have running in my system, and the aim of the exersize was to safely power another new upgrade namely the "radeon HD6790 "
my existing ocz stelathstream 500w psu was powerful enough ( just about ) and had 2 x +12v rails with 18A on each rail ... however with just one 6pin pci-e connector it wasnt enough for the HD6790,and allthough i could of used a molex to 6pin adapter ive never liked them and didnt want to start
the 600w OCZ stealthstream on the other hand has 4 x +12v rails with 18A on each rail .. and the last of the four +12v rails is solely dedicated to the 2 x 6pin pci-e connectors that come with the 600w ocz stelthstream !
so im presuming the 600w ocz stealthstream should be more than powerful enough for the HD6790 and from what some quarters have told me it may also be enough for a crossfire setup ( allthough i beleive a 700w psu would be better when running 2 x HD6790,s in xfire )

as you can see the 4 x +12v rails are capable of delivering up to 580w ... and on this model the pci-e connectors are dedicated to the 2nd +12v rail ...
is there any advantage to having the pci-e 6pin connectors on their own rail ? ..... and would this be any more stable ?
and overall how good is this psu for my current system ?
specs :
core i5 3330
8gb ddr3 ram (1333mhz )
gigabyte H61MA-D2V
Sandisk readycache (32gb)
1tb WD sata HDD
500w OCZ stealthstream ( upgrading to 600w )
asus GTX550ti ( upgrading to HD6790 )
many thanks guys for all your help !

no real benefit of having 1 rail over 2 weaker ones. They only real downside to 2 rails is adding more points of failure in the device.

that psu would be just fine for your system even with the 6790 as long as you make sure 1 6 pin from each 12v rail is what is powering the gpu

thanks mate
the image i supplied isnt the label thats on my 600w ocz stealthstream ... the label on my unit has the pci-e 1 and pci-e 2 on the fourth +12v rail ( see image below )
http://microdream.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/500x500/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/img_8812_1.jpg
you stated that each 6pin connector needs to come from seperate +12v rails ... is this correct as i cant see OCZ making a mistake like this ...
another problem i can see is my sata ports ... the HD6790 ( from vtx3d ) is longer than normal and the position of the sata ports on my H61 micro atx motherboard is parralel with the pci-e x16 slot .... i have 3 right angled sata connectors and need be i will disable my second storage drive and house it in a external enclosure ... it only hold non-critical data and wont be a problem
finally as i stated many have recommended i use the GTX550ti over the HD6790 ... however the HD6790 has a significantly better memory bandwidth and a superior memory interface ( 134gb/sec and 256bit ) .. wouldnt this be better over the GTX550ti ...
when you said that psu will be fine did you mean the 600w model or the 500w .... ?
your input is much appreciated
cheers mate !
