Recently I have just upgraded to the Z87 and have noticed that the 'Assist fans' that ventilate the motherboard are quite loud, even with changing the profile to "Silent".

I have turned them off completely within BIOS (FAN-OFF) and it is at an acceptable noise level now. No annoying high pitch sounds coming from my case.

QUESTION IS:
Having them turned off, will this affect my rig badly in the long run?
And if so, what are everyone's 'Assist fan' configs in BIOS if they have them turned on?

Solution
use AI suite 2 to adjust their usage and depending your ambient room temp and inner case temp find a comfortable temp/rpm ratio that will result in less audible operation.also if temps are good there is an auto fan stop option. if you are overclocking better have them operational cause one of these small fans is cooling the vrm's(voltage regulators). if not there wont be any problem but asus recommends using them.!

They are supposed to be optional from what i remember, so you should be fine without them i think. I never had a problem with them even when they were reported as spinning up to fairly high numbers but I know that others have had similar sound issues as you. I would just remember that the board was made with the fans in mind, so I wouldnt be surprised if there were slightly different temps. than expected without the fans
