Motherboard and CPU were replaced by HP - still one core. Same result in Speccy - 1 core 1 thread.
Running Windows 8. F keys open HP startup utility but no way to set BIOS to 4 cores.

Solution
Go to task manager, and go to the performance tab. There is an option, when you go to view, to view one graph for all CPU's and one graph per cpu under the CPU history link. I am not familiar with Speccy. Also try CPU-Z.

Task Manager -> Option -> View- shows no options re the number of graphs. BOOT has a selector for number of processors but shows 1 and choice is greyed. CPU-Z shows Processor #1 greyed and Cores 1 Threads 1.
All this confirms that the CPU has only 1 core as far as this computer is concerned. Somehow I think I need to convince it that quad means 4 not 1.
If the motherboard was replaced wouldn't that mean it now has a new BIOS? If so how can it apparently be infected with the 1 core setting as per the old motherboard???
