Looking to upgrade Graphics Card for Lenovo M58.

I recently bought a computer from my work for $70. Trust me when i say, the specs are a vast improvement over anything i had.

The specs are:

Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo @ 3.00ghz

4gb RAM

32-bit Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic

Radeon HD 3400 Series 256MB

Also i should note the it has a 280w PSU (which i know complicates things)

Basically I want to run some older games i got from a Steam Sale a highest graphics settings. Games like Age of Empires III, Company of Heroes, F.E.A.R., etc.

Right now they'll run smoothly at low-med settings. F.E.A.R. i have to drop down to 800x600 for it to run smoothly.

I know i have nothing close to a powerhouse, but this machine should be capable with the right GPU for what i want.

I'd like to keep it under $50-$60. I ve been looking and i'm overwhelmed by the possibilities.

Also i'd be willing to drop $100 if i'd be able to play more modern games like Diablo 3, L4D2, etc.

Solution
If your budget is $100, you are in the really low end of things.
But, even for the budget you can get something that will play L4D2 on the highest settings. (My 5570 could run that, its worth $40.)

The GPU I've chosen for you is in your budget range, and it will play more modern games, such as BF4 and maybe ARMA 3 on low/medium settings.
It also includes a $15 MIR, which lets it go at about $75. A steal in my opinion.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB Video Card ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $89.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Thats one of the main cards i was looking at. Newegg says that it is currently out of stock, and im not sure if Radeon is still producing them. I've read that the R7 250 is the rebranding of almost the same card. Would this one work as well?

It would work, but this one at $75 would be the best deal for you right now.
It doesn't say it will NOT be restocked, so all you have to do is wait.

Plus, the 7770 is equal to the R7 250 but the 7770 GHz edition isn't. It is a little stronger than the R7 250, but cheaper.

No, I would recommend you upgrade.
The cheapest decent PSU I could find you was here:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Power Supply: Antec Basiq 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $39.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Another option would be:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($39.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $39.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

yeah, i was wondering if a PSU upgrade was needed. I know that would broaden my scope a little bit. so that combo would be about $125, which isnt too terrible. I dont want to sink too much into it. Otherwise i might as well start saving towards a new rig. Which is a ways off.

Thanks for your input!
