I am looking to make the jump to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7. I am looking to get some input from the community about any performance gains or loses anyone has had with games or in general. I have been wanting to make the jump but today may be the day and I just need the push. (It is on sale for 79.99) and is there much of a difference between Pro and Core? I wont really be needing the added security or the remote desktop.

The standard Win 8 is fine. Pro only needed if you really need those extra features.
Performance? I have Win 7 Pro, and 8.1 Pro dual booting on a laptop, on 2 partitions on the same drive. Zero performance difference between the two.

Go to 8/8.1 only if you really want to. I like it and have it as my primary OS on my main machine.

Yes, some people have reported slightly better performance/FPS with Win 8.
