Hi, there..
I just put together a new system with some spare parts.
But, the MB (GA-P43-ES3G) & CPU (Q9450) are from ebay.
I put my Corsair H80 (brand new that I had) on it and booted yesterday.
I found that the CPU temp was pretty high. around 60c in idle.
So, I ran Prime and it failed with a message saying hardware failure.
I ran Ortho test and it failed with the same message.
I finally ran system stability test of Everest only to find out..
the CPU temp is around 60c when idle and around 95-100c in full load. What..?
I thought it was very high.
What's even more strange is that the MB temp is 45c in idle and 85 in full load.
It's hard for me to imagine it's the CPU that causes this high temperature. (Isn't is too high?)
So, I suspected it is either the motherboard or the cooler.
The motherboard.. I bought from a Chinese seller (with a good feedback) and
it was a factory refurbished one and the cooler, I bought it two years ago brand new
from Amazon and kept in my possession. However.. I need to mention this..
When I assembled the cooler on the board, I could not firmly tightened the back bracket
to the board and to the front bracket. I tighten it as much as I can but it just won't give me
that tight feeling. Either the screw was too short or the board was too thin. I don't know..
but It was little too loose. (Should I try a thin washer? Need your opinion here)
I don't know what's the cause of it but that's what I observed.
So, I suspect two things. It's the cooler. The Corsair H80 does't provide the tight sealing
between the cooler and the CPU. Maybe I need a replacement or I need to put more Arctic Silver 5
or a little washer that will fill the gap. But why so high MB temp?
Or, it is the factory refurbished MB that cause this high temperature. So, I need to ask a refund.
Maybe, both.
I have build several systems for myself and family and had no problem using new quality parts.
Now, I have no idea when these kind of problems come in my way so I ask your help.
What do you guys think is the cause of this high temperature and what should I do?
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time and God bless you.
