Hi all
My laptop died this past week and rather than fix it or get another one, I've decided to build a new desktop. I've been trying to research things this past week but now that I'm closer to finalizing my build I would appreciate some outside input. These are my goals with this build:
- Music production is most important. This means CPU over GPU for me.
- I do still play games. I don't need top tier stuff, but I want to play some FPS, Strategy and RPGs. I don't need high settings for FPS games, I play TF2, Natural Selection 2, Metro 2033, and Sanctum 2.
- I need everything but a mouse. Its possible I can get 64bit windows for free but I don't know that for sure yet. Thus I am buying:
CPU
MOBO
Memory
Storage
Graphics Card
Case
Power Supply
Optical Drive
Monitor
Keyboard (backlit)
and possibly OS
- My budget is about $1000
I've messed around on pc part picker for 3 days and this is what I've come up with:
CPU: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80623i52500
MOBO: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-b75pro3
Memory: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f314900cl10d16gbxl
Storage: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd10ezex
Graphics Card: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/pny-video-card-vcggtx750t2xpboc
Case: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-200r
Power Supply: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-power-supply-capstone450
Optical Drive: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-optical-drive-drw24b1stblkbas
Monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vs238hp
Keyboard (backlit): http://pcpartpicker.com/part/microsoft-keyboard-jqd00001
and possibly OS: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/microsoft-os-gfc02050
Total: $1049.92
I don't have any plans to do any overclocking on this system as of now, which is why I went with i5 2500. I debated on a couple things, like forgoing a 144hz monitor and sticking with the GTX 750 Ti so that power and heat would be low. Also dithered around about getting a 7200rpm HDD vs a 10000rpm velociraptor. Any input is welcome, and thanks for looking at this.
