First time build, test came out negative. I removed HS and up came the amd cpu attached to it. Read here how others recommended the other party to use a hair dryer, or rubbing alcohol to remove the old paste. Youtube AMD Pro says never use any liguid to separate the cpu from the HS. Where do these members get such info. I got mine off very easily, by doing a little twist. With a bandage gauze i wiped off the remaining paste..checked the pins and they look perfect. This build is like looking for a needle in a haystack to find out why only the standby led on the MB comes on...and could someone tell the purpose of that cpu lock lever?

can u tell me how to check to make sure its locked? Is one suppose to try and pick up the cpu from the pins and if u get resistance..than its locked? They say once u get the cpu setup right, don't mess with it. I guess the majority of us that had the same problem, didn;t have it locked.

Well, i started the breadboarding technique from what i read..Nothing connected to the MB, but the 24 + 8 pwr connection , plus the cpu fan..and nothing else. ..no ram, no spkr sw....all that lights up is the led green standby MB , the same result using another PSU.

I have not used AMD for a long time, but generally you lift up on a lever before you place the cpu in the socket and then you push back down on the lever into a locked position after the cpu is properly seated - lifting of the heatsink will NOT lift off a locked cpu because it locks into the slot tightly. You install the heatsink after you lock the cpu onto the motherboard socket

Well after a couple of days taking a breather, I tried again this mid morning and this time I got a bit further and matched what your quote said above. I heard the cpu fan coming on for the first time and very briefly I saw a digital reading in red , something like this.."0 0 ", below it, and then it shut off. I connected everything but the HDD sw ( no HD installed ) and no ram. I presume at least that up to now there is nothing wrong with the setup...ie.. CPU,HS & Switches.
