Hey y'all! I remember a couple years back all of you helped me with my desktop build (it's still running great, I've made a few upgrades). It was a $1500 or so build, but now it turns out I'll be going to college. I can bring my desktop, but I'll need a good laptop too now as my early 2011 macbook pro isn't well, that good anymore! These are the specs I'm looking at. If I can't decide, I'll probably just get a Macbook Pro Retina or an Air. If I can justify the weight, I might just get an Alienware though, so I'm undecided but I still have a few months.

1. What is your budget?
Preferably less than $1500, but I can go higher if the laptop is really that good.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
13-14"

3. What screen resolution do you want?
1080p or at least something close, not a dealbreaker if it isn't 1080p.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable, but still powerful.

5. How much battery life do you need?
4 hours at the very least.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I might play Call of Duty/other games on medium or high settings.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Might do some photoshop, lots of school work.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
500GB would be cool, but I have a 500GB external Hard Drive if it's a smaller SSD.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
2-6 years.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Not sure if I need one, but a DVD drive wouldn't hurt.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
Dell, Alienware, Apple are preferred, but I'm open to anything besides Compaq, Lenovo, and HP (I've owned all 3 of these in the past couple years and I'll have had is hell).

13. What country do you live in?
USA!!

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
i7 and 8GB is preferable, but i5 will do, and if it is 4GB it needs to be able to be upgraded easily if needed.

You don't need nearly that amount of money for a laptop for what you need, I don't get why you need an I7 for that.
and please we beg you here not to put your money into an alienware just for the aesthetics? they're stupidly bulky and the battery life is just as bad.
here's a 13.3" that has an I7 with a solid graphics card that's on the bottom end of your budget, its 1080p and all that, its based in USA so free shipping e.t.c.
the battery life sucks but you can use this to extend it a good 4-6 hours or more with one of these, pick and buy at your leisure: http://www.techradar.com/news/portable-devices/other-devices/best-portable-chargers-14-we-recommend-1178873

yes it looks boring, but they do the job.
