3/5 AC or 5/5 N

I finally upgraded our router to a Netgear with AC capabilities. Once connected to the desktop I receive 5/5 bars on N or 3/5 bars on AC (or 5G as it calls it).

Is there a test I can do to see which is more beneficial? Something of a great thing vs everything of something.

Thanks!

The difference isn't AC VS N it is 2.4g VS 5g. If you were to force your router to not support 802.11ac and use different ssid for the 5g and 2.4 you would likely see the same difference but both would be 802.11n signals.

This is because the 5g signal is more easily blocked by the walls..and even the air.

But you need to actually test and see what works better. You may get 5/5 signal but if you also have lots of interference from neighbors the actual throughput may be less than a weaker signal with less interference. In general you get less interference from neighbors 5g for the same reason you get less signal inside your house. It has a much harder job penetrating the exterior walls of a house so their signal can't get in...

So, it's a little trial and error. Thanks for the help. This 5G is so so. I'm about 25 feet from the router but up a flight of stairs/wall and this thing is dying out on me.
