asus continous restarting

I just want to upgrade my asus u41j to 6gb ram originally i have 2 slots with 2 2gb ram each when i inserted my new 4 gb ram my laptop dont power up, only the light indicator for power shows up then it restart itself over and over again... i put the original ram again and it dont fix the problem... any advice?

Did you verified that you were as static free as possible before touching your components? This 4GB is compatible with the slot (DDR2,DDR3)?

Put back the original memory RAM, start up your laptop and check what DDR channel (DDR3, DDR2...) it belongs to. You can do it using Speccy (by Piriform, www.piriform.com/speccy).
But your lapto do not start, remove the two memories installed and use a eraser on the gold contact, just like you were erasing the paper.
