I am planning to buy a new gaming rig and i am confused whether to get 1080p monitor and r9 270x or to buy r9 280x with 720p mointor[which i have now]
Is there big difference between 720p and 1080p monitor?

Solution
There is a big difference though, because 720p is usually sufficient for TV. After all people lived with 720x480 for a really long time and its still a big improvement over that.

Computer graphics are made for quality and benefit from high resolution

In short, get the best monitor you can reasonably afford
A 24 inch 720p picture would look pixelly. A 24 inch 1080p would look pretty crisp. Most people are using 1080p monitors these days. Gaming enthusiasts are spending twice the money to get a 1440p monitor. Better gaming monitors have lower response times.

But budget wise, you need to decide what is the priority - better GPU first or better Monitor?

The difference is 1 152 000 pixels, actually.

You could max out a 720p monitor easily with any R9, but I'd prefer the 1080p monitor, at least a decent quality one. You'll get a larger field of view, so you can see more things at the same time.
If you can get a PLS / IPS panel, then you'll enjoy the monitor more (Instead of getting a TN panel).

you can pretty much max stuff out on 720p with the cheap hd7750 1gb gddr5 gpu....spending the money for 720p on a r9 280x is an utter and complete waste. Get a 1080p monitor and the r9 270x, it's a rebranded hd7870 which was pretty good for 1080p

720p is an old standard....tv channels to my knowledge still years later only offer 720p though, I've looked it up and for the future I see no plans to do 1080p due to bandwidth
